Aphorisms by Vesna Dencic

Vesna Dencic is from Serbia, where she trained as a journalist and now writes poetry, literary essays, short stories and, of course, aphorisms. The Balkans is richly aphoristic, and these days Balkan aphorists have plenty of material to work with, given the region’s tumultuous recent political history. Dencic chronicles the Balkan aphoristic tradition on a number of Web sites, including Smeh do bola, which she describes as “aphorisms and everything about aphorisms.” She is also the founding editor of the satirical online magazine Etna. Her own aphorisms have a sharp satirical edge and, like Etna itself perhaps, harbor a molten core just below the surface. A selection:
We sold our soul to the devil. Now he’s coming to pick up the package.
Every time I turn on the TV I get lost in the dark.
I’m not afraid to say what I think. I’m afraid of thinking.
Every man of action needs woman of action—to clean up after him.

Wery good. I’ve been expecting Serbian aphorists sooner.
Vesna Dencic has good sting-in-the-tail paradoxes.
Vesna is my first cousin so I know her quite well.
Not only is she an incredibly talented writer but a genuine and kind individual, always prepared to step in and give a helping hand to the less fortunate ones. She has organized and funded numerous charities, raised huge amounts of money, donated her books, time and effort. Vesnas writing mirrors her life experiences and her heart and soul are embedded in her work. She is a credit to this industry. Well done, sis !!
I wish I could read more! I have to say I am happy to have someone from the Balkans (and not surprized) as some of my favorite poets - Milorad Pavic, Vasko Popa, Tomaz Salamun (Slovenian), and our new US poet laureate who introduced / translated alot of them for us as anglophones (see also The Horse Has Six Legs anthology of Serbian Poetry), Charles Simic - are from there.
Vesna is an good writer, editor and friend as well. On website Zona satire you can download some her books for free. She helped me a lot to set up that web site (Zona satire). I’m glad she is friend of mine and good person who has been working more than everyone for Serbian satire. I want to emphasise that she is volunteer, but “professional volunteer”,
