It’s refreshing to see an academic come up with a book that can be flicked through and give a philosophical layman something to think about and appreciate.

I remember flicking through a few pages of an earlier edition of this book by Simon May on Amazon last year…and I thought then that this was a neat, upbeat sort of book with a few sensible things to say so I bought it on ebay, £2.99 + £1.50 p & p; but then I found it was a bit too upbeat and optimistic for me and my moods, so I decided to stick with the Oracle of Gracián, which I bought on ebay for £4.99 + £2.50 p & p, whose book, I found, suited my mood more, more or less down to a tee…but that’s just me, maybe.

As a “semi-educated” ignoramus, I have always been rather suspicious of the well-crafted sentences of the “new wave” of philosophers...as it appears they may know way too much.
